How to develop a sense of patient decisiveness during a ping pong game?

Some players are too patient they mostly just keep the ball in play, missing opportunities to score. Others are too decisive they jump on every ball with little patience or judgment. Develop a sense of "patient decisiveness" in other words, pick your shots carefully, but once you've made a decision, be decisive about it. Don't be afraid to take a shot, but don't be afraid not to take a shot when it's not there. Be decisive about whatever shot you choose.

I can enthusiastically vouch for this tip.
I recently was having a terrific problem with a 'pusher'. I am a hitter, but he was getting even my best hits back - and every time I missed [as we hitters quite often do!] I was throwing away points - and the match.
So I thought 'You'd better steady up and start picking your shots mate'. So I switched to a safer routine, with an occasional bash when I had a better ball; and it worked.
Well tipped!
